Prescribed Vagifem After Hysterectomy And Bladder Repair. Any Side Effects ?

I had a hysterectomy6 weeks ago and bladder repair. My Dr. Has prescribed Vagifem pessaries for 3 months. I am 64 yrs old ,have never used Hormone replacementtherapy .I am worried about all the possible complications and side effects listed. My friend assures me that the dose is quite low, not like full on HRT. I am also type 2Diabetic. What is your opinion?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Vagifem pessaries contains estrogen in the form of estradiol.
Compared with oral tablets they will contain less amount of hormone as told by your friend.
But you have to use the tablets when they are needed.
If you are having any symptoms of estrogen deficiency like night sweats, joint pains, mood swings, vaginal dryness etc. you can use the pessaries as benefits over-weigh the risks.

Take care.
