Prescribed Pred Forte After Procedure To Clear Corneal Opacities In Eyes. Alternate To Pred Forte?

I was prescribed Pred Forte after a procedure to clear up corneal opacities in both of my eyes.

The condition that caused the opacities also causes pretty intense photosensitivity. And since I've started taking the Pred Forte drops, my photosensitivity is almost debilitating. It is nearly impossible to drive during the day (and sometimes even street lights and headlights at night are difficult for me to handle). In fact, I am wearing sunglasses right now just to use my computer.

Is there any alternative to Pred Forte that will not cause such a dramatic increase in the photosensitivity? Otherwise, I may have to just stop using anything at all. It is getting to the point that I am effectively blind when faced with even minimally intense light.

Hi...
Thanks for the query..
Before I answer the question, I would like to know what was the procedure done and when and also if you are any other medicines along with Predforte?
Coming to the answer..
Predforte will not cause any photosensitivity.. Whatever the sensitivity you are having may be beause of the condition itself or other drops like Tropicamide, cyclopent or homide if you are using any one of them..
Predforte is given to reduce the inflammatory reaction present in the eye and cyclopent and others are given to prevent any adhesion formation inside the eye and also for relieve the ocular muscles inside the eye...
So please check if you are using any other medicines and Predforte should be continued to reduce the inflammation and for healthy and speedy recovery...
Hope this information helps.. Take care..Will be available for further queries..

Hello,
The symptoms you are facing like photosensitivity are because of your corneal opacity because of diffraction of light caused by the opaque areas in the cornea. Pred forte will not cause photosensitivity by itself. But predforte can cause corneal epithelial damage and prevent healing of the corneal epithelial defects. It can also cause corneal edema because of raised intraocular pressure.

Please get your eyes examined to rule out any of the complications because of
predforte eye drops. If so you have to stop pred forte eye drops. If any of these complication are not present you can use artificial eye drops along with predforte eye drops.

Thank you

hello,
welcome to HCM,
first of all i want to tell you that pred forte is a steroid which does not cause photo sensitivity, it is given to reduce inflammation in your eyes.
are you putting some other drop i.e. cycloplegic which can cause dilatation of pupil and photo sensitivity.
if this is because some other drop which you might be putting then dont worry, this photophobia will stop as soon aseffect of drug vanishes.
if you are not putting any other drop then visit an opththalmologist and get examination done because corneal involvement of any pathology cause this photo sensitivity.
so you have to start treatment for it.
please continue pred forte as advised to you,it will help you to reduce your symptoms.
i hope i answered your query
take care
