Prescribed Duvadilan, Duphaston During 10 Weeks Of Pregnancy Due To Bleeding. Safe For Self And Baby?
Hi Doc, I am 35 yrs old and 10 weeks pregnant now, this is my first pregnancy. my doctor advised me to take duvadilan and duphaston twice a day both medicine for about 5 weeks because I was suffering from bleeding. Now, i stopped drinking of it. I would like to ask if this is safe for me and my baby? I was scared that it may lead to any abnormalities especially to my baby. Please advise and Thank you.
Hi, Welcome to HCM, Once you are pregnant and suffered from bleeding it amounts to threatened abortion and was rightly advised rest and progesterone support and tocolytic that is supposed to prevents uterine contractions. Deficiency of endogenous progesterone may lead to bleeding and miscarriage. Both these drugs are safe and help to continue pregnancy. There is no risk of fetal defects due to drugs. You have mentioned stopped drinking? it is not clear what do you mean by it. Please continue to take your medicine as per advise of your Gynecologist. Folic acid supplementation must be given to prevent defects. There are some test which can detect antenatally your Gynecologist will guide you. Wish you safe motherhood. Take care. Good Luck.
