Pregnant With Stomach Cramping And Lower Back Pain. Have Pelvic Pressure, Fever And Soft Stools. Pre-term Labor?
I am 31 weeks pregnant, I am having constant stomach cramping and lower back pain. I have also have a lot of pelvic pressure which I struggle to walk. Rest does not seem to relieve any of the cramping. I have also just finished two lots of antibiotics for an infected wisdom tooth. I have fever and soft stools also. I have delivered pre term with all my 3 previous pregnancies. Should I be concerned about pre term labor?
Hi and thanks for the query,
It s of utmost importance as you rightly suspect to exclude a preterm pregnancy. It is very important to rule out an infectious process, probably identify the causative organism and treat appropriately.
Blood cultures, urine cultures and antibiotic sensitivity tests might be required at this stage. With a past history as, such, it is important to evaluate and take appropriate actions in time. At 31 weeks, the lungs are not very mature, the best thing is doing everything possible to prolong the pregnancy till 34 weeks if necessary.
A monitoring is however important to exclude endometritis , which could demand immediate or preterm induction for avoid certain neonatal and maternal complications.
Consulting your obstetrician urgently is of utmost importance.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
