Pregnant With Epigastric Pain. Diagnosed With Cholecystitis. Advised To Take Tiemonium Methyl Sulphate. Is It A Safe Medication?

Hello I am pregnant , 18 weeks now, having epigastric pain and discomfort for 2 weeks and the pain is unbearable. cholecystitis has been diagnosed. I have been advised Tiemonium methyl sulphate for 7 days. I would like to know if it is safe to take as it is an anti-spasmodic . Moreover, can you pls kindly tell me what I should do for long term relief during pregnancy as it is unbearable. Thanks

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

I can find no evidence that there is any significant harm with this medication and its use in pregnancy. This does not mean that it is totally safe, but is considered okay to use if the benefits of the medication are felt to outweigh the risks of NOT treating.

Base on your level of pain and how far along you are in pregnancy, you urgently need a consult with a General Surgeon to assess the need of removing your gallbladder. It will be a much more difficult issue to deal with later in pregnancy!
