Pregnant, Was Diagnosed With Paraovarian Cyst And Grown In Size. Suggested Surgery As It May Cause Pre-term Labor
Hi, I am 6mos. pregnant and I was diagnosed with paraovarian cyst in my 2mos. pregnancy. The cyst was 6.3cm then and when I had my ultrasound again first week of this month, the cyst had grown to 7cm. The doctor suggested that I undergo surgery to remove it as she is afraid of rupture or pre-term labor. Is there really a big chance that I will have a pre-term labor. I am more concerned of my baby. Thanks.
Hi, As the growth in the size of the cyst over the course of the pregnancy so far has been little, watchful expectancy will work. If the cyst has a pedicle that can get twisted or if the cyst is located in such a precarious position that it may yield under pressure of the growing uterus, then it needs to be removed. I would ask you to get a second opinion in this matter as the benefits have to be weighed against the risks. If the uterus is reacting to the cyst as of now, it can lead to preterm labor; symptoms like back ache, increased discharge, tightening etc. apart from the fetal movement score suggest active management. Hope this helps.
