Pregnant, Ultrasound Shows No Heart Beat Detected, Advised To Terminate Pregnancy. Is This Right ?

I am 6 weeks pregnant my last ultrasound done on July 5th, 2013 showed a sac (2.9cm.) yolk sac and fetal pole were seen. Crown rump (4mm) however no fetal motion. My Dr scheduled an ultrasound for Friday July 12th and said that if the heart beat is not detected then we may have to terminate the pregnancy. I am worried that it might be too soon. I do not have any bleeding or cramping. I do have nausea, exhaustion, constipation, and tender breast. At what point does me wating for the heart beat become a health risk for me?

Thank You,
AAA

Hi,
Thanks for your question.
If you want to wait for the nature to reveal what is really going on, you may go for it. This is called expectant management. There is no health risk associated with it except for wasting time. Usually with such scan reports we tell patients to wait & repeat ultrasound after 10-14 days. If no heart beat, this means it is a missed miscarriage. You may then choose among the three options called surgical termination, medical termination & the above mentioned expectant management till nature abort this pregnancy.
If heart beat appears, this is a sign of an ongoing pregnancy.
Best of luck.
