Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The ultrasound report of the pelvis is as follows:
The uterus shows a presence of a gestational sac.
Gestational sac is a sac which contains the products of conception or fetus.
The gestational sac is present proving that conception did take place.
However, the fetus is not present in sac.
This can be due to missed abortion i.e. the products of conception have aborted without your knowledge.
Or the other possibility is that the conception has been delayed.
Delay in conception will delay the appearance of fetal pole on the ultrasound scan.
In case of delayed conception, the fetal pole will be visible after a weeks time.

Thanks and take care

Radiologist Dr. Vivek Chail's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Let me explain the report findings in simple language.

As per the menstrual cycle dates, your wife is supposed to be pregnant with fetus corresponding to age 9 weeks 2 days. The ultrasound report shows a gestational sac corresponding to age 6 weeks 6 days.

Therefore, there is discordant findings as per age of pregnancy by dates and from ultrasound scan findings. Also it is clearly mentioned that there is no fetal pole present. A fetal pole is the earliest fetal identifiable part.

Sometimes there fetal pole can be seen later due to wrong dates. Under such circumstance, your wife must get another scan done after a week which is important to tell if there is a viable pregnancy. Even serial HCG level estimation may be done for a better monitoring of the present situation.
Please get another ultrasound done as advised.

Hope this helps
