Pregnant, Had Discomfort In Lower Abdomen, Diagnosed With Fibroid, Prescribed Gestin. Is That Safe?

Hi doc. i had been diagnosed with a fibroid at 6 weeks. the size was 5*3cm. Now i am 18w 5days n the fibroid measures 8*6cm. i had a lot of discomfort in the lower abdomen . on the scan we understood the discomfort was due to the fibroid. My obgyn suggestd to take gestin tablets once at night for one month to ensure the fibtoid doesnt affect the baby. shud that medication b fine

Welcome to HCM.
You have carrying pregnancy of 18 wk plus with fibroid size about 8*6 cm (moderate size).
As pregnancy is going on,there is enlargement of uterus with increased blood flow to uterus including fibroid. So size of fibroid is increased to a certain point.
Some symptoms may appear due to fibroid like abdominal cramp or others.
Gestin tab is given to avoid early miscarriage and it also enhances fetal well being.
You have to aware of any of alarming sign like heavy bleeding,less fetal movement or eye discomfort and contact to your physician for further management.
Avoid stressful activity,long journey,heavy work and sleep well.
Be well and tc.
