Growth retardation is a subjective diagnosis and needs to be confirmed by making sure you have got your dates right. A 1st trimester ultrasound
can really help us in dating.
If the growth is getting delayed, we need a scan to look at the placenta. Inadequate nutrition can definitely cause growth retardation. You dont need a drip till you have a protein losing enteropathy
. Instead, you could have a high protein diet ( plenty of dal, legumes, cottage cheese, tofu, eggs and non vegetarian items)
