Pregnant, Another Follicle Found Near Embryo With Heartbeat. Possibility Of Twins?

I am 7 weeks pregnant. I went for an ultrasound today and the tech commented about another follicle next to the one with the egg sac and baby (or embryo). The tech said there could have been another baby. She looked but the "black circle" (I assume that is the follicle) was empty. What happens to this other follicle? Will it go away? The tech took pictures but said everything looked real good as there was a heartbeat and I am measuring around where I should be.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The black circle he mentioned could be another gestational sac.
Now the possibilities are :
-The sac may be a blighted ovum, without any embryo in the sac.
-Possibly the sac can vanish.
-If there is embryo in that sac also, which may not be visualized in early sac, that can grow.
So further antenatal checkups and ultrasound examinations are needed for followup.
Take care.
