Hi,
Nuchal cord, as this is called, is quite a common phenomenon and the frequency increases with advancing gestational age. As such, not much of study has been done on this, but cord around the neck does not usually pose any serious problem during pregnancy. Normal vaginal delivery is possible in most cases. When a nuchal cord is detected at delivery, it can be slipped around the head of the baby, or if that is not possible, around the shoulders. Only when it is so tight, that the cord may have to be cut to enable delivery. Caesarean section is indicated only when a nuchal cord poses problems during labor like a obstructed labor or fetal distress. You can have further advice from your doctor. Wish you a safe delivery.
