Pregnant. Low Platelet Count. Is It A Threat To My Pregnancy?

Hi, i am 31 yrs old with my first baby in 27 week of Pregnancy and my Plattelets have fallen to 63 k . I am worried if it is a threat to my Pregnancy or me? My doctor says if Plattelets will fall below 50k then we may go for artificial method of boosting Plattelets in body till then we will keep on observing. Now my query is before going for artificial method , is there any other method of increasing the plattelets in my body naturaly ? and is my Baby safe ?

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

It is extremely important to sort out WHY your platelets are low. While this might be normal for pregnancy (called gestational thrombocytopenia) there are other serious causes of platelet drop (e.g. preeclampsia) that need to be ruled out. In addition, there are some diseases where this is related to an auto-immune process where there are even implications for the newborn after delivery. It is time to ask for a consult with a 'high-risk' OB doctor to discuss these issues.

I hope that this helps. If you have more questions, please click on "ASK ME A QUESTION" link above to directly ask me a question!
