Pregnant. Is Chickenpox Contagious? Can I Be Affected?

Hello, I am 21 week pregnant. I had my 21 week scan yesterday. On sunday i met my friends and today they found out that their little girl have got chickenpox . They told me that i can be in trouble and something can be with my baby. I have no idea if i have had chickenpox and my parents do not remember too. I am so worried. And the problem is that i am going to holidays on next tuesday for 3 weeks. What do you suggest to do? Hope to hear from you, thank you, Arita

Pediatrician 's  Response
Dear Arita,

Thanks for your query. Yes, chickenpox is contagious but you need to take things in your stride. We do not recommend chickenpx vaccine to you at this stage as it is a live vaccine. Most of the adults develop some immunity to chickenpox over the years. They may not remember if they had the infection in their childhood.

I suggest you enjoy your holiday. However if you develop fever and rash thereafter then take adequate rest.

With best wishes,
I find this answer helpful
