Positive Pregnancy Test. History Of Ulcerative Colitis And Abruptive Abortion. On Misacol. Safe?
hi doctor I was suffering with ulcerative colitis and was hospitalized for a month in last December and had an abruptive abortion. I am on misacol 400 (6 doses per day) & I have missed my periods & the pregenancy test done at home showing positive results. Is it safe to have misacol during preganancy & what care should I take to have safe pregenancy? pls guide Thanks
Dear user, welcome to healthcare magic. Your pregnancy should be monitored by a gastroenterologist together with the obstetrician in order to pass safely. Misacol is the safest during pregnancy, corticosteroids may be taken with the least effective dose and for the least duration, methotrexate and thalidomide are contraindicated during pregnancy. The outcomes are good if there is no activation of the disease and you should take a suitable prenatal vitamin that you can tolerate. Also you should take Folic acid supplementation at higher doses than usual to prevent prenatal defects. I wish you good luck with your pregnancy. Dr. Ahmed Bahaa.
