Positive FOBT. Colonoscopy Advised. Intermittent Abdominal Pain And Burning. Family History Of Precancerous Polyps. Worried

Hi there
I recently received a positive FOBT and I am now scheduled to meet with a gastroenterologist in two weeks to consult about a colonoscopy. Since receiving my results I have. Had intermittent abdominal pain that ranges from cramping, indigestion type burning to small sharp pain all around the navel area. Today I was running with my children and felt out of breath and after I had stopped a few minutes later I felt a sharp stabbing pain near my navel, which is predominantly where most of my pain has been. In addition to the above I have been somewhat constipated and at times when I have managed to go there seems to be a minimal amount which sometimes presents with mucus.. Oh and finally my mother has had pre- cancerous polyps removed about 7 years ago and her sister has also had polyps recently found. I am 41 years old. Any possible suggestions of what I might be facing would be appreciated.

Hello,

Hereditary polyps patients are at a higher risk of development of Colonic carcinoma.
Yearly screening is advised for those patients.
You have a very strong family history and the Faecal Occult Blood Test positivity in your case becomes all the more significant.
