I can just think of two possibilities in your friend's case.
It could be herpes zoster
Herpes zoster is a viral infection presenting itself as red fluid filled bumps in cluster in a particular dermatome and are very painful. Treatment requires antivirals and pain killers
Furuncles or boils
are bacterial infection of hair follicle, presenting as red raised bumps that over a period of few days form a head from which eventually pus drains and these require antibiotics for resolution
I would advise that you meet a qualified dermatologist
for diagnosis and treatment
