OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Beside pregnancy, there are several reasons of late period with brown to bloody discharge like hormonal imbalance, pelvic or vaginal infection, co-existence of stress/ anxiety, old endometrial tissue, thyroid disorder, ovarian cyst, irregular diet habit etc.

Here, you have to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan and hormone test to pinpoint the diagnosis.

Treatment depends on underlying etiology. Consult with your gynecologist at the earliest for other relevant investigation if any.

Avoid stress, take healthy diet with iron supplements, control body wt, maintain genital hygiene properly and take proper sleep.

Be well & take care.

General & Family Physician Dr. Chobufo Ditah's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms you have reported and the delayed menses. Your symptoms are suggestive of an early pregnancy. However they may not also be caused by a pregnancy. My advice would be that you repeat the pregnancy test. If it is positive, then you are pregnant. If it is not but symptoms persist or become worse then I would suggest that you seek medical attention from an OBGYN.

Please, if you are t pregnant now after resolving this problem, consider adopting and correctly using a contraceptive method. Also condom use during sex can help prevent against STDs as well as unplanned or unwanted pregnancy.

I hope this helps and I wish you well.
Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask more questions if need be.
