Painful, Tugging Sensation And Lump Below Belly Button. Not Pregnant Or Obese. Suggest

For the past few days I have had a tugging sensation just below my belly button; it came on quite suddenly. At first it was very painful, it felt almost like I was being stabbed and I couldn't move without pain. It felt like something in my stomach was being stretched out, that was not meant to be. Now, a couple of days later, it still feels very uncomfortable, especially if I touch the area. All the information I can find online points towards either pregnancy or obesity, of which I am definitely neither. I don't want to go to the doctors if it's nothing, but I am worried about it. Also there does seem to be a lump when I press down, but that could have been there before and I have only just noticed because of the pain. Hope someone can help, thanks.

Gastroenterologist, Surgical 's  Response
Consider a hernia around your belly button as a possibility for your symptoms of tugging, pain etc. Does this supposed lump appear on standing up or straining and disappear on lying down. Hope your bowel and urine are regular and fine. Suggest you to see a GP and get yourself examined for seeing if an actual lump exists.

Cardiologist Dr. Anantharamakrishnan's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Any pain abdomen will start in mid-line and then shift.
If after a couple of days, it is localised to the umbilicus, the cause must be local...
The lump may be hernia / tenderness (pain on touch) may mean an infection - but one is not sure until examined... / Get examined by a surgeon - the belly button has a wide area of lymphatic drainage from armpit to groin...make sure nothing serious is missed...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
