Pain Resumed While On Tapering Dose Of Ibuprofen After Total Hysterectomy. Why ?

I had a total hysterectomy 9 days ago. I felt really good, not much pain at all. However, I was in surgery 51/2 hrs... I s1tarted to decrease my dose of ibuprofen on Weds. and have had fever ever since. It really gets worse around 8pm and breaks around 4 am. Last nite my temp. was 101.1 with ibuprofen. Today I have started back taking tylenol and ibuprofen alternately. I have a temp of 100 now. I am not really in any pain, so I don't like taking the pain med. I have a Dr. apt on Tues. Do you have any ideas what this could all be?

Hi thanks for using HCM.

Pain may be due to surgery but fever indicates infection.
Infection may be at the surgical site or UTI or any other region. Get done complete haemogram, widal test and urine routine once to diagnose the cause. You are required to start antibiotic if infection along with ibuprofen to manage your infection and fever.
I usually prefer amoxiclav antibiotic if patient is not allergic to penicillin.

Hope this answered your question. Consult your doctor for further examination and management. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.

Hi there! Welcome to H.C.M. Forum.

Just before the operation, the patient will be anesthetised, and that is the reason as to why you do not feel the pain until hours later. On discharge, your doctor would advise you on the course of all the medicines which need to be taken ( antibiotics, painkillers etc). Drinking lots of fluids will help to keep your temperature down. Since your fever seems to be persisting even after 9 days , I would suggest visiting your doctor. They can rule out any source of infection (if any), by taking a urine culture or so. It may take a couple of months to get back to your normal well being.

Good luck!
