Pain In The Tail Bone, Pressure In The Anus, Constipation. Mucus In The Stool. Worried

Hey Doc, I am a 19 year old male and about 4-5 weeks ago I noticed an odd pain in my tailbone. It wasn't a constant pain, just occasionally when I'm sitting down and move it will ache. Not a strong ache just enough to be uncomfortable. Over the past few days I've felt pressure in my anus... As if needed to use the bathroom but whenever I would go it would take a while... Kind of felt like constipation but hardly any stool would come out. I also have a yellow sticky mucus on my stool and occasionally no stool will come out just a little mucus. Also my anus is a dark purple color? Please help me doc, I'm sure it's nothing serious but being so young all I'm thinking the worst

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your symptoms are most likely caused by hemorrhoids or anal fissure. Serious large intestine disease are not characteristic for your age.
Hemorrhoids give itching, sometimes pain and lump around the anus. Fissure gives strong pain especially when passing the stool. Both conditions are caused by constipation due to increased pressure in the rectum.
Constipation can be caused by bad diet (low fiber intake, low mineral water intake), lack of physical activity, thyroid diseases, medicines (Ca-blockers, antidepressants), chronic bowels infection, inflammatory bowels diseases.

I suggest you to start with diet change and physical activity and see if this will help. Please also follow this steps:
- do not push hard on stool
- wash your anus after every stool
- have sitz baths with Quercus Cortex twice a day
- use OTC suppositories for hemorrhoids

Such treatment should help in a week or so. If no improvement, you should see a doctor and have diagnostics.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
