Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi thanks for the query,
Since the fracture is near to the ankle joint, there would be some form of articular congruity integrity, resulting in some form of locking. Regarding the swelling over the outside of the ankle is due to bursa formation around the plate or screw rubbing against the skin. Some times it could resolve or consult your surgeon for advice. Post surgery in some fractures around the joints you may slightly feel discomfort during winter season.
