Pain in the ankles when running. Due to incorrect footwear?

2 weeks ago I started to get a sharp stabbing pain in my right ankle or to be more specific, what I believe to be the navicular bone . I broke my tibia 12 months ago so I thought that had somethin to do with it at first but then I started to get the same pain in my left foot . This pain was only happeng when I would run so I have rested for the last 10 days and havnt felt any pain in that area since. I ve been told this could be as simple as not wearing the correct footwear but i d just like to know if this stabbing pain could potentially be more serious? Thanks. SCG
