Pain In Left Side Ribs, Breathlessness

My husband has had a pain on his left side for a week, He thinks its his ribs. THe pain is worse when he is sitting or laying a certain way. Laying on his back or stomach does not cause discomfort. Also sometimes he says it seems difficult to catch his breath if sitting. He is 31, no known medical conditons, construction worker

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Krystal,
Your husband might be right after all.
if he has history of trauma, its the ribs causing the pain.
bone pain sometimes causes slight difficulty in expanding of chest causing difficulty to breath.
if he complains of any other symptoms like pain radiating to his arm or back, or excess sweating , or giddiness., go to the doctor immediately.
otherwise there is nothing to worry about.
some good rest and muscle relaxants or pain killers wil be enough
take care.
