Pain In Knee When Bending Or Straightening Leg After Injury

Yesterday I was playing basketball and jumped up for a rebound and landed weird. I sort of had a weird sensation in my knee and felt it move or change in some way. I came out and sat on the bench, immediately noticing that I couldn't really straighten my knee, due to the pain. I decided to work through the pain and go back in to not let down my team. Last night a little after the game the pain became a little worse, I could walk, but limped and couldn't straighten my leg out all the way. The pain comes when I try to bend or straighten my leg and sometimes when I move to quickly. I am hoping it is just something minor and will go away soon with time. When going down the stairs I sometimes feel as if it might give out or It sort of does and I get a lot of pain. The pain is inside my knee on the outer side.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms can be attributed to injury/ pathology in soft tissues in the knee joint, most probably ligament injury.
Symptomatic relief can be obtained with anti inflammatory preparations like Ibuprofen, ice application & application of analgesic+muscle relaxant gel.
Physiotherapy exercises will also be helpful.
If symptoms still persist, kindly consult an Orthopedician for proper clinical examination.
Investigation like X ray & MRI of the knee joint will be helpful in detecting the pathological cause for the symptoms.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Chander Mohan Singh's  Response
Hi, i have read your query. You must get xray of affected knee done in AP and lateral view and send reporting to us or discuss with your doctor, your family doctor will also do some physical tests on your knee to asses the problem and tell you about any sprain or torn ligament in your knee if any , till then do not play any game and apply cold pack for 30 mins in morning and in evening for 3 days and take painkiller if pain is severe .
