I fell from a standing position onto my left side when my knee gave out. I hit my left side on the floor in a doorway. I thnk I may have bruised or cracked a rib. Unable to sleep except in a recliner chair. Alot of pain. What do I do now? I hqve to go back to work on Monday - 50% desk job . What would help more - ice or heat ?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in the knee is likely to be due to an injury to the internal structures of the knee like ligaments, tendons, bursae, menisci, etc. Keeping the leg elevated and local analgesic gels will help you.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
