Pain Between The Base Of Skull And Left Ear While Turning Right. Trapped Nerve?

I slept funny 2nights ago....woke up and it was painful to turn my head from left to right. It only hurts now when I tilt my chin to my chest and to the right. But I don't get pain in my neck/shoulder; it is only is at the base of my skull and behind my ear on my left hand side at the back. Is this muscle related? Nerve trapped? I don't normally worry, but with it being new and not feeling this pain when I turn my head I am interested to know its seriousness. Hope you can advise.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain that you have is suggestive of a trapped nerve most likely at the level of the cervical spine. An MRI scan of the neck will help in confirmation of the diagnosis. Avoid using a pillow till then.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
