Oval Lump On Right Side Of Neck, Shoulder Sore, Neck Is Stiff. Could It Be Due To Muscular Tension?

I am a 53 yr old female with an oval lump on the right side of my neck. It is sore if I palpate it. Sometimes it is bigger than other times. Sometimes I can t feel it at all. In the back of my neck - on the right side and just where the neck joins the skull - there is a sore and tender area. My neck in general is stiff and my right shoulder is sore. My jaw and facial muscles are sore too. Could my swollen lymph node be related to muscular tension?

Thank you for asking on HCM.
It can be an abscess which due to the inflammation is giving pain and tenderness in the neck, shoulder, face , jaw and back of neck.
Another possibility is that there is an infection going on in the head and neck region, resulting in enlarged and painful lymph node and pain is due to the inflammatory effects of the lump. The muscular tension may be present as a secondary feature. If I was your treating physician I will consider:
1. Starting an antibiotic course ( preferably Tab Augmentin) and Tab Diclofenac as a pain killer. (As dosing is required please consult your doctor)
2. Evaluate the lump by physical examination and relevant investigations if necessary.

I hope you find this helpful.
