One Year Old With A Reddish Spot Near The Eye. What Is It?

Hi my 12 month old son got a big fat red spot near the corner of his eye... I saw it yesterday and today it got a bit bigger then yesterday... It looks like he got stung by something it doesn't really look like a spot to me... But his acting fine his not crying or acting wired, his alright and I was thinking of taking him to his gp tomorrow.. But can you help me please!

Hi dear,
It could be an insect bite as said by you, could be an infection or allergy. It is the rate of progression that you need to be worried. Usually it will subside in one or two days. If it is increasing then you need to show it to your gp. You can try soothing lotions like calamine.
Don't worry she will be fine.

I think that if your son is not crying or is not uncomfortable - just leave the spot alone till you see the doctor. It might be a bug-bite, but this is unlikely because such bites usually itch or pain. The other possibilities are that it might be due to a virus, a local injury with something tiny but sharp or it might be a birth mark that is now increasing, such as a hemangioma.
