On pacemaker, has lump on top of pacemaker that seems to be increasing. Reason for occurrence?

My mother has a pacemaker. She has developed a baseball size lump, that is hard as a rock right over the top of the pacemaker. It has become larger and larger over the past month. She is due to visit her Dr. In Feb. but I m insisting she go sooner. The doctor is two hours away. What could be the reason this is occurring?
