On Encorate Chrono. Developed Dark Rashes. Epilepsy Attacks More Frequent. Used To Take Eptoin. Side Effect Of The Medicines?

My mother has been taking Encorate Chrono 500, twice daily, for the last 4 weeks. She has developed dark rashes all over her body over the last two weeks. Can this be a side effect? Her epilepsy attacks also seems to have become more frequent during this period. She used to take Eptoin 100, 3 times daily earlier and she went without attacks for 3 - 4 months at a stretch. Her doctor switched her to Encorate as this is a newer generation medicine.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi

Thanks for asking.

I do not know why her anti epileptic medicines were changed, there is a general consensus in the epilepsy treatment and it says if a person is well controlled on one drug ,it needs to be continued.

Changing the drug can cause loss of control, ask your doctor about it.

She may need to be started on eption again.

Thanks.
