Occasional Heart Fluttering, Skipping Beats. Losing Breath, Coughing. Heart Checked, Reports Normal. Due To Stress?

Occasionally and more often recently, my heart kind of flutters like it s racing and it feels like it skips a beat, it makes me lose my breath and cough . I had my heart checked out last summer for the same issue and was told my heart was fine. Oh and also, I am a 35 yr old female, in fairly good health, I am overweight and I am under way more stress than most people my age. My husband is dying from congestive heart failure and he is also a lortab addict which puts a huge strain on our marriage. I have three children, one is a teenager and I work a full time job. Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

You have mentioned that you have had a cardiac evaluation and was told that you don't have any heart problems. You have also mentioned that you are underextreme stress due to the adversities which you are facing in life currently. In this scenario, the possibility of anxiety disorder being the likely cause of your symptoms has to be considered.

Anxiety can manifest itself with not only psychological symptoms, but with physical symptoms also. If you are having recurrent such symptoms or having difficulty managing your stress, then I would advise you consult a psychiatrist for a detailed psychological assessment and further treatment. There are effective treatment options - in the form of medication or counselling / psychotherapy which will help you overcome your problems.

Wish you all the best.
