Numbness And Swelling After Broken Leg. Need Opinion

In 2008 I had a fall and broke my left leg. Tibia was broken clean across, fibula was fractured as well as ankle. I opted not to have surgery and stayed pretty much in a wheelchair for 6 months. I guess it healed Ok but had occasional numbness and swelling afterward. Recently (2012)an MRI showed I had a partially torn Achilles tendon in my right foot . I wore a boot for 6 weeks, but the swelling never completely went away in that heel. In September 2013 I broke a bone in the same foot by the little toe. I have been wearing a boot, but my left leg has been giving me a lot of numbness, tingling and pins and needles from the extra weight being put on it. To look at it it appears there is a bruise (has been there slightly since the cast came off) in the middle of my chin. The insurance coverage I have only pays for preventative care so I m reluctant to start trying to find answers thru the regular means of doctors. I am frustrated and could use a professional opinion. I understand it will be just that, an opinion since you don t know me or have access to my MRI or x-rays. Thanks.

Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Numbness, tingling, pins and needles sensation could be due to the involvement of nerve supplying to that area.
The nerve damage is because of entrapment of nerve in the swelling or due to injury occurred because of fracture.
Exploration of the wound is required to look for nerve compression. If compression is relieved by surgery then there are chances of getting relief.
I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for further advise.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
