Nose And Gums Bleeding After Dog Scratch. Taken Anti Rabies Vaccine. Safe?
gud day!my son scratch our dog shih tzu on my son nose and my son gums are also got bloody dont know if the scratch came from the teeth or their nail of our dog for my peace of my mind i got him to the nearest clinic to take some anti rabies vaccine it took 4 session of injection if it safe for my son to take erig vaccine even if our dog are also vaccinated anti rabies.hope for your immidiate answer thanks.
If your dog has been vaccinated against rabies then there is NO risk for your son to contract rabies. Also, even if the rabies vaccine is unknown or out of date as long as you contain your dog for 10 days and a veterinarian examines him at that point and determines that the dog is fine you do not need to do the rabies series on your child. Rabies is a very slow virus and thus it is safe to wait and observe the dog. Again, as long as your dog is vaccinated then you need not worry.
If there is any doubt regarding dog bite it is safe to complete the vaccination. Rabies is a deadly disease and proper precautions should be taken. You need not worry. The vaccination of dog will not interfere with that of the child. (If you are sure that your dog received vaccination as per schedule and completely upto date then your child may not require vaccination but if you are not sure of the same it is better to complete the vaccination)
Also do not forget to give TT injection. Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care. Dr Y V Siva Sankara Murty M.D.(Pediatrics) Associate Professor of Pediatrics
