Newborn With Loose Stools. Weight Loss. Due To Taking Osteocalcium?

Hello Dr. Our Baby Just born in 31 weeks (26.04.13) and the weight was 1.088 at the time discharged from hospital on 14.05.13. Dr prescribed him 3 syrups - Ostocalcium B12 syrup 5ml 3 times daily, A-to-Z multivitamin syrup and Jusse dee. After given the ostocalcium b 12 syrup the stool was loose. we went hos and they say its normal and the weight was 1.210 and sat (18.05.13) also checked the weight he decreased to 1.110. They advice reduce the ml of ostocalcium b12 syrup to 3 ml. But still the stool was loose. so we bring him to hos today and weight decreased to 1.090. Now they say stop those syrup for 2 days and check again. Dr says he is ok.

Kindly advice wat happend to him. Is these medicine to early for him to take.

The main reason for decrease in weight gain in newborn is insufficiency of feeds.

I advise you to give frequent breastfeeds every 2nd hourly.

If the sucking is not sufficient you can give expressed breast milk by spoon followed by direct feeds.

The loose stools are common in newborns and they will decrease as the child grows.

For weight gain you can ask your pediatrician for human milk fortifiers like HMF sachets and MCT oil.
