Need Treatment For Rectal Discomforts

Hi I am from England visiting my mother here in Baton Rouge she is 86 and generally in good health except for lung fibrosis, and the occasional fluctuation in blood pressure, her main problem is her rectum whic is giving her a lot of discomfort and burning . She has been to a re tum doctor who says there is nothing wrong, and doesn t need surgery. I cannot make put if she has piles or not her re tum doctor has only given her a barrier cream and also said she can also use a hydro cortisone cream combined with pramoxine this cream however, burns on application the barrier cream is soothing and relieves her. Is there anything I should know or be aware of? She says it feels like there are lumps in her bottom. She has slight constipation problem which we help with extra fibre, water and milk of magnesia.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
It may be caused by hemorrhoids, fisure, polyp or fistula. Most commonly we see hemrorhoids doing such symptoms.
These are protrusions of veins in rectal wall and there are several stages of hemorrhodal disease and the right treatment depends on type and stage of the disease. Initially it can be treated with dietary changes by having hogh fibre diet with lot of fluids and make your stool soft. Also, you should use sitz baths and have hemorrhoidal cream. Second, it can be treated with rubber ligation or sclerosation and in severe stages, the surgery is recommended but for this you should consult proctologist.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
