Need Medication For Rash Occurred Due To Usage Of Band Aid On The Stitches On Hip
I had surgery on my hip a week and a half ago and they told me to keep my stitches covered with bandaids and change them once a day. Today when I changed them, I had a rash all around where the bandaids touched. Should I be concerned about an infection, or is it a reaction from having the adhesive on for so long?
Hello, Thank you for posting on HCM. It seems you have contact irritant dermatitis due to use of Band-Aid. Usually treatment is straight forward but you need to consult a dermatologist to rule out underlying secondary infection. In my patients, i generally suggest a short course of oral antibiotics and analgesics. Oral corticosteroids may be added as required. Apply a cream containing antibiotic like mupirocin for 3 days followed by a cream containing mid potent steroid like mometasone and fusidic acid twice a day over affected areas for atleast 5 days. Take antihistaminics for itching as required. Hope this will take care of your issue. Wish you best of health. Thank you Dr Hardik Pitroda
