Need Medication For Loose Stools

Hi. I have been having loose stools on and off for a few months now, with normal stools in beteen. The episodes last for a few days and then disappear. There is mucus, with sticky, loose stools, that feel like burning acid at the anus. Also, food items seem to have passed undigested. At the time of an episode, my whole tummy aches as if it has been bruised, with difficulty in turning over or getting up quickly in bed, or bending down, making quick movements involving the pelvis. There is not much change in appetite, and no nausea.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
1) Abdominal pain + loose stool + increased frequency of stool + mucus discharge are suggestive of inflammatory bowel disease and you should do evaluation.
2) In this disease inner layer of large intestine become inflamed (redness + swelling) and this affect absorption capacity of intestine due to which you have weight loss. Intestinal inflammation lead to formation and secretion of mucus along with stool.
3) Colonoscopy with biopsy is recommended to confirm this disease and once proven it require specific medical treatment including steroids. If (rarely) disease is not responsive to medical treatment or require higher dosage of medication (beyond safety level) then surgery is recommended.
4) Other less possible cause is irritable bowel disease (IBS) in which patient have indigestion due to inadequate intestinal digestive enzymes. This disease require just supplementation of intestinal digestive enzyme as treatment.
