Need Medication For Irregular Periods

Hi
I am 48 years old and have always had a normal period. I have started to have irregular periods as in skipping months and not arriving on time. I was due for my next period this week but started bleeding last week but only when I went to the toilet and on the paper. This has been the same for a week. I have never had as light a period as this. I am wondering is this normal for the onset of menopause.
