Need Explanation On Disease Moraxella
I'm on zythromax for a throat infection. My doctor just called to tell me that the lab results just came back and I have Moraxella. I've never heard of this. When I looked it up on the Internet just now, most search results came back related to respiratory infections in adults and ear infections in kids - not throat infections. What is Moraxella? Is it a superbad bacteria or just a random kind of bug? How contagious is it? Thanks.

Moraxella catarrhalis is a very common infection for upper respiratory and ear nose and throat infections as these structures are connected .You are on right antibiotic and you will be soon back to normal.Just keep the precautionary measure like Universal precautions, good hand-washing technique, and sterilization of instruments and tubes used in intubations, aspiration, or invasive procedures may reduce or prevent the nosocomial infections caused by M catarrhalis. Cessation of smoking and prevention of passive smoking may reduce M catarrhalis infections. Good general health habits (eg, proper rest, exercise, and diet) are helpful as well.
Research is under way to create a vaccine to prevent M catarrhalis infections
