Neck, Throat Up To Ear Hurts, Having Cold. Swollen Gland?

I have a nagging cold that certainly can end somehow! I ve had a dry cough like a tickle in y chest and a sore throat . This afternoon my neck/ throat under my jaw on the left and up to my ear hurts. Is this what a swollen gland feel like? Is it more than a cold. I m in Va where flowers are blooming but I ve never had allergies .
