Neck And Shoulder Pain With Stinging And Drowsiness During Attack, Breathing Difficulty. Also Have Sinus And Dust Allergy. Reason?

Hi my name is Eshwar. I have pain in my neck and left shoulder . I am suffering from this problem for past 3 years. I came to my notice when i took some heavy Furniture holding on my bare hands to 5 th floor. I carried some them on my back and lifted them forcebly. from then on i have been suffering some sort of stingyness, and drowse while this pain comes. Both my hands and feet feel when if sit for long hours. Some times its even hard to breath. As some thing is blocking. I even have mild sinus & Allergic to smoke and strong flavours. Is it because of this reason. or i even work for late hours in night in office. Hardly no workouts for physical fitness . please Suggest me . I even consulted my physician, he said you are alright.

Hi,
Since you have neck pain and L) shoulder pain ,whish worses with lifting heavy object, you require detailed neurological examination to rule out nerve root involvement secondary to disc.Difficulty to breathe may be secondary to allergic sinsusitis and bronchitis.Consult your neurologist and pulmonologist for clinical evaluation and management

Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Dr. R.A. SINGH's  Response
Hi Eshwar,
Thanks for writing your query.

As your pain started after lifting heavy weight, you should get a MRI of your head and neck done.
You have not mentioned your age. There might also be some age related changes in the cervical spine.

You should also get yourself examined by an Orthopedician.

Taking pain killer along with muscle relaxant will be helpful in decreasing your symptoms. Apply local pain relieving gel after hot fomentation. This will also help in decreasing the pain. Physiotherapy has an important role in such cases. Consult your orthopedician before any medication.

Abnormality in cervical spine can result in dizziness or vertigo. It can be relieved by taking Betahistine 16 mg thrice to twice a day.

For allergy you can take antiallergy like Fexofenadine 120 mg once a day for three to five days. Take any medicine under medical supervision only.

Try to take proper 6-8 hours sleep daily. If you are working in night shift, have good sleep in the daytime. Proper rest will relax your neck muscles and your symptoms will be less severe.
While working, always take care of your posture. Donot bend your neck forward or downward. Neck should be in line with body. Also use thin pillow while sleeping.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
