Nail Turned Black, Infected, Numb, Swollen After Getting Hurt. Prescribed Antibiotics. Will It Heal On Its Own?
I fell a week ago and felt like I had ripped my toe nail on my big toe off. But the nail just turned black at the bottom and then got infected around the nail bed. The doctor gave me antibiotics but no x-ray. It's numb, swollen and it feels like it's burning and cold. However, it doesn't feel cold to the touch to me. Should I see a Podiatrist or will this heal on it's own. My family doctor said I might have torn a nerve but didn't seem to concerned.
The symptoms can be attributed to nerve or blood vessels in the toe. The swelling, black colouration & numbness is characteristic. Moreover, it has got secondarily infected for which your Doctor has prescribed antibiotics. Kindly continue them as advised. If symptoms still persist, kindly consult a Podiatrist for proper clinical examination.
Take care.
