My mom had a bypass or angioplasty ?

hi, my mom had a hagiography today and the doc has advised that there are 2 blocks in the artery one is am confused as to go for a Bi - pass or angioplasty. She is 68 years of age has BP diabetic. Please advise. Prabhu

Hi.. TThe benefits of a by-pass surgery are few when compared to the angioplasty. In the sense that the chances of recurrence is comparitively lower in by pass surgery and is relatively less costlier (thought the difference may be minimal if only a single stent is used). However the disadvantages of this by pass are that it is open heart procedure and may not correct more than single artery that are significanly blocked in a single procedure... Since being a open surgical procedure, there are more chances of complication, extra stress on the patient and pain.. If I were you I WOULD OPT FOR ANGIOPLASTY over by pass surgery, if both the options have been given to me by the cardiac surgeons..
