Mother Suffering From Thalassaemia Trait. What Precautions Should I Take To Have A Healthy, Successful Pregnancy?

Hi My name is Neha. I am 30 years old. My mother is suffering from thalassaemia trait. I have not got checked it for me yet. I and my husband are planning a baby next year. Kindly advise what precautions should we take to have a healthy n successful pregnancy.

Dear Neha.

Your mother has thallasemia trait. You haven't mentioned your father's status.
But still it's unlikely that you will have thallasemia major as you are 30 and it's still not evident.
But a good advice would be to be sure.
I advice you to go to a genetic counsellor and if after discussion of your complete family history , any testing is required you may go for it .
