Missed period last month. Having prolonged periods this month. Reason?

I m 20 years old and usually have my period for five days every 30 days or so. It s never been too regular though. Last month, I missed my period which normally happens every few months. But this month I started, and it lasted for 8 days then stopped for five and started again today. This has never happened before. I m not bleeding a lot or hurting at all, but this is starting to concern me. What could be going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi. when periods are irregular, or too spaced out, it may be due to several causes, one of them being hormonal. what you are having now is called meno-metorrhagia. you will have to see a gynaecologist and you will be asked alot of questions about your cycle like at what age did you first see your period, are you taking pills or any contraception, and others. But do not worry, usually the problem may be corrected itf it is hormonal but see a gynecologist to be sure.
have a nice day

General & Family Physician Dr. Ramesh M.Vachharajani's  Response
from history it seems that youmight be having some hormonal imbalance giving rise to irregular period.
Consult Gynaec and get examined.
You may require 3-4 months of hormonal cyclical courses to regulate your period.
ok and take care.
