Mirena IUD Inserted, No Periods. Breast Sore, Nipples Itchy, Leaking. Cramps, Headaches, Fatigue. Pregnancy Chances?

Hi, I've had the mirena IUD for five years now and haven't had a period in four years. For the last two weeks my breasts have been extremely sore, itchy nipples, heaviness and have recently started leaking. I've also had cramping, increase in smells, headaches, and extreme fatigue. Haven't had any of these symptoms while on the IUD, only when I was pregnant with my two kids. I took a test two days ago and it was negative but I feel like I could be. Is it possible that I could be pregnant?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi,
Since you have had the IUD for five years now, the efficacy may have worn off and at such a stage, failure rates are more. Your symptoms and your past history suggest very early pregnancy. Urine pregnancy test may not be of much help for you and I would advice blood pregnancy test which is confirmatory. You should consult a gynecologist for a physical exam and go for the removal of the IUD if you wish to continue should you test positive. Please get a trans-vaginal sonogram for further assistance. Hope you find this information useful. Good luck.

OB & GYN Specialist Dr. Richa Agarwal's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
The chances of pregnancy are very less in your case because you are on mirena IUD but chances are still be there so you should consult a gynaecologist for examination to see whether IUD on place or not.
You should also get your urine pregnancy test done to rule out pregnancy.
If it is negative go for withdrawal medication.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
