Mild pain on opening mouth wide, stretched lining behind throat. Medical attention required?

I am feeling slight pain when opening my mouth wide. It is not the jaw but the side of the lining at the back of my throat surrounding the opening. One side looks really tight and does not seem able to stretch like the other side. Do I need to just keep trying to stretch it, or should I have it looked at and by what type of doctor?
