Mild Discomfort, Dull Sensation In Calves After C-section. Could This Be A Clot?

Hi
I had a c section almost 6 weeks ago and for the past 3-4 weeks have had a mild discomfort in my calves. I have worried myself to death about a blood clot. It seems that the sensation has been more noticeable in my left calf the past few days. It's hard to explain, it's not really a pain, like a dull sensation. Could this be a clot?

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

It don't think that your symptoms are due to a blood clot (DVT), it looks like a simple calf cramp.

The typical features of DVT (Blood clot) in leg are -
* Diffuse swelling of the entire leg
* Skin will be stretched, shiny and discoloration may be present -blue or red color of the skin
* there will be local warmth of the leg
* the swollen area will be tender to touch
* any upward movement of the ankle may cause severe pain in the calf muscle

The general guidelines for calf cramps are
* Plenty of oral fluids to avoid dehydration
* Gentle and passive stretching of the involved area
* Moist heat fomentation over the affected muscle
* Mild massaging of the muscle with any painkiller gel
* Calcium and Vitamin D daily supplementation

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
