Mental Disbalance

Hello.Am from Mauritius and am a girl of 22 years old. Since I was a child, i have been always thinking of negative things. It`s as if I cannot control my mind and think like I want. Now this problem has aggravated and only negative things comes to mind. For example I think about those I love a lot being trouble, having health problems or dying.I am very afraid of these thoughts and feel disgusted since I am not able to remove those things completely from my mind.I was to think of happy and positive things. Plz tell me if i need help. This is very depressing and I do not want to lose by loved ones at all. I find girls of my age very different from me and they are always happy and enjoying while I am someone who thinks too much of the future and worries a lot. Please help me!!

Hi Nam,

You do seem to think a lot :-)

If you are having these thoughts repeatedly and they are causing you distress, then yes, you need help. If the distress is so much that you feel you are different from others of your age i.e your life is being affected, then probably you need help soon.

The negative thoughts could be given any label like depression or OCD or any such other label but the thing to remember is that most of these labels have cures. They could be either in terms of medicines or talking therapies (Psychotherapies)

The best thing to do first is to have a Psychaitric consult.

Good Luck

Hi Nam,

first of all thanks a lot for the kind words.

You seem to have done all the hardwork and all you need is the right kind of treatment.

YES, THIS CAN BE CURED WITH THE RIGHT KIND OF TREATMENT. IT HAS TO BE EITHER MEDICATION OR RIGHT KIND OF TALKIGN THERAPY.

Usually, we start with medication since really qualified people arerare to do the actual kind of talking therapy that helps. Counselling is overrated and does not help to cure the OCDs. It needs specific other talking therapies. It would be best to have both.

I udnerstand that stigma of psychiatric ilnesses prevent a lot of people from getting better. Here is the oppurtunity for you to show your strength of character. Find ways of convincing your parents as much as you can. If it works all of you will be happy.

If they do not consent, then you will have to find out some way to help yourself by getting the help of a psychiatrist and only you will know how to do that. There are lot of online consultation services nowadays including on this website and that should prevent problems at your house about "going to see a psychiatrist". You can do it from home and nobody needs to know.

Good Luck

Hello doctor. Again thanks a lot for your kind help and support. This small thank you is really not sufficient as you have helped me a lot. Thanks to you I know what my problem is and am relieved that it can be cured. Am very happy that I found this website where there are good doctors like you. Yes i will try to talk to my parents about the visit to the psychiatrist and tell them about the therapies. But if they do not agree, then I have to do the online consultation like you have suggested. However, if i do the consultation on this website, is it possible to have the consultation donw with you since you already know my problems. Thx a lot doctor.

Yes, it is possible to have a consultation with me. But try to convince your parents their support makes it easier for you and seeing dr in person will be definitely more helpful. Also I have to tell you that my consultation will only be advisory as I can not legally write a prescription for you if medicine is needed as I am not registered as a doctor in your country. But anyways, good luck

Hello doctor. Thx a lot for always helping me. Yes ur rite, its easier to see a dcotor in person..But I need to think of a way to tell my parents about the problem and convice them to take me to a doctor. It only it would have been possible to have a consultation with you and you could prescribe me the medecines, this would have been so great. I really want to get out of this problem and be able to live a normal life.I must say that it was great to find this website where there are doctors who are always ready to help people and provide them with adcive. Hi nam,

Yes, it is possible to have a consultation with me and I CAN NOT PRESCRIBE MEDICINES FOR YOU DIRECTLY...that is for sure as I am not registered with mauritious...may be I will think of doing that :-)

But another way around this problem could be that you have a consultation with me, then if I think you need medication, you could see a normal physician, nto a psychiatrist, in your country who would aggree to treat you i.e prescribe medications etc UNDER MY DIRECT SUPERVISION.

Think if this will help.

As for consulting me, I think you MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN A CONSULTATION THROUGH THIS WEBSITE. if you are having any problem with that, do let me know on his forum and I can take it up with the website people.

I can not think of any other way to help. Hope this helps.

Good Luck

Hello Doctor. I am really sorry that am replying after so long. Actually I tried to have the online consultation and am having problems with it. I think I also need a paypal card to be able to do the consultation and for the time being I do not have one. I have to get one first and then I will be able to get the online consultation. I have also talked to my mum about my ocd problems and she agreed that it was time I consult a psychiatrist. I told her how I found about it and the ways it can be treated like you had mention. I told her how you helped me. I am happy that I have been able to share this with her as this problem is really troubling me. I hope that now I can get treated and I have to get the paypal card to be able to have the consultation with you. Thanks doctor. Thank you so much.
